If you see one falling and miss it, look up anyway as you might catch others in time. Stars tend to fall in small groups of 2-3, so be ready to press A multiple times in a row. Tilt the camera up by pressing up on the control stick, and when you see a shooting star, press the "A" button to wish on it - and the star will shine before it disappears. Put away any tools and move to an area of your island with an unobstructed view of the sky. On a clear night, there is always a chance that a few shooting stars may appear, but if you want a guaranteed chance, you'll have to wait for news of a meteor shower during daily announcements.
